runner down

i remember hearing the emt's on their radio talking about a runner down. i didn't hear a lot of stuff. but i heard that. and it was me. and i remember lying on the stretcher in the ambulance with the oxygen mask on thinking. shit. that is me. this so was not supposed to happen. but it did happen. and i have a tale to tell ... you are all gonna have to wait till i get all my facts perfectly straight & drink a bottle of wine - cause there's a bunch of detail that eludes me & while i can recall certain things, i only really know what happened from what coach, my husband & best friend told me. but up until just before mile 23 when it all fell to shit, we were right on track. so perfectly on track.

OMG, I have been so worried about you all day...started tracking you early this morning and then noticed that something went TERRIBLY wrong somewhere after mile 20. I just want to know that you are OK and please know that you are still my hero!

Oh Suzanne -- I figured something terrible must have happened. At first I wasn't concerned since I was thinking Columbus was only 2 hours ahead of Seattle. In fact, when I saw your finishing time of 5:06 I wrote to Angie saying it couldn't POSSIBLY be correct. (I thought perhaps you hit the wall and it should have been 4:06). I just hope you didn't LITERALLY hit a wall.

I'm so glad you were surrounded by your family and friends. This is definitely a sobering reminder that running a marathon IS NOT EASY.

Take care, sweetie.

Suzanne, I am SO sorry about this! I was tracking you and saw you were doing so well and then all of a sudden nothing. I didn't want to think it. It looks like you finished, although it wasn't the outcome you had hoped for. I just hope you're okay! I have been VERY worried about you all day not knowing. Just take your time. You can tell us when you're ready. Rest. Recuperate.

I woke up today and cranked the computer up. Tracking you was really cool and I was totally cherring you on and then.... I just died needed and wanting to know what happened?!!???!!! My husband told me several times to call you but I knew it might be something that you might not be ready to talk about.

Girl I am on pins and needles. I hope you are fine. You were smoking the course.

Am I going to need a bottle a wine too? Tomorrow I will call and you answer only if you feel like talking.

*Sending warm runners hugs* take as much time as you need to recover and figure things out. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. We should all consider it a blessing you are well enough to alert us via your blog. REST and RECUPERATE!

Well folks... you'll have to wait for the full report from Zanne but suffice it to say that she is a complete bad ass. If I had been in the ambulance, I would have been calling my mommie and not thinking about finishing the damn race. That takes major league guts!

We hit our mark at 21 but were already losing time but dang her toughness, she just kept plugging along until the wheels just fell off entirely and I knew it was time to pull off to the side.

There will be other days and Zanne will be stronger for this experience. I for one have a new hero. I wish you ladies could have seen her. It was indeed inspiring.

Oh, Zanne! Like the others, I was tracking you this morning (figured it out on my own, ha) and knew something must have gone wrong sometime after mile 20 because up until then you were cruising! I did think it was a good sign that you were able to finish, but nfow you're talking about EMTs? Ambulance? Oh my goodness. Please get some rest and take good care of yourself.

i am so overwhelmed by everyone's comments & support and the fact that so many of you were tracking me ... i never even gave out my number & am wondering how some of you got my last name! but i am thrilled and so flattered you did and i am so grateful once again to all of you for the enormous support. the story is forthcoming -tomorrow, i'm sure - because i'll have all damn day to compose the tale. i am indeed just fine. humbled, though, by this sport we all share & love so much. although i'll tell ya - i didn't love it so much today.

oh Honey, I am so sorry. ((HUGS))

Been just dying to see how you did. I'm so sorry to see this and hoping you are okay. It certainly is a humbling sport, humbling distance.

REST and RECOVER. Wine is good too. :D

While her coach has leaked just a bit of the drama of the day, let's just say it was quite a ride. Hopefully she will post some of the pictures, as they tell the story the best. Zanne does not have a poker face, and by mile 21, we knew things were not going well. But...well the fact that there was a visit to an EMT and she finished tells the rest of the story. She is a bad ass...there is always plan B.
